Sharing Her Love of the Arts One Step at a Time

Long before Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker fills dance studios, retail stores and just about everywhere else, one SCASD student, Chloe Snellgrove, will be preparing young dancers for their first Nutcracker ballet performance. For her senior project, Chloe has been hard at work developing a program focused on broadening participation in the arts, specifically ballet, for those who may not be able to afford it. “I have danced for 11 years and just recently stopped,” she explains. “I have such a passion for helping people and a passion for ballet, so I decided to combine them together for my senior project!”

Reaching for the Stars: Teacher Helps Students Find Success On Stage

Jill Campbell, SCASD Learning Enrichment teacher and director of the State High Thespians, is currently in her 38th year of teaching. Born and raised in Berks County, Jill graduated from Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa., with a double major in speech and drama and elementary education before studying child drama at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro. Jill joined SCASD in 1983 at Easterly Parkway before joining the Learning Enrichment Program in 1987 as an elementary program specialist.

SCASD Elementary Teacher Wins Mathematics Award

Attitude, creativity and drive have added up to a mathematics award for Radio Park Elementary School teacher Kate Hallinger.

Hallinger, who teaches fourth grade, recently received the Pennsylvania Council of Teachers of Mathematics New Teacher Award. According to the PCTM, the award recognizes “promising, beginning teachers of mathematics so that they will be encouraged to remain in the profession.”
