Congratulations to Nora Kroll-Rosenbaum ’97, who received a Grammy award for her contributions to “Ask Your Mama.” The multimedia collaboration, set to Langton Hughes’ 1961 epic poem “Ask Your Mama: 12 Moods for Jazz”, was recognized as The Best Engineered Classical Album at the 2016 Grammy Awards. The album contains performances from a number of prominent musical artists including The Roots, Janai Brugger and Nnenna Freelon.

Nora’s parents are two renowned psychologists that moved to State College when they got the opportunity to teach and do research at Penn State. Nora attended State High, where she organized a concert dedicated to women composers. She then went on to receive her Master’s degree from the Juliard School.

Today, Nora is composing film scores that have appeared at Sundance, Tribeca, IDFA and Telluride. She has also been a producer for music that has been presented in Black Nativity, The Galapagos affair and The Naked Option.
