Easterly Parkway Grant Project Designed to Maximize Learning by Meeting Basic Needs

“State College Area School District wants to prepare students for lifelong success through excellence in education. Largest Award to Date Enhanced Virtual Learning During Critical Time

Special Maroon & Gray Issue: When the 2020-21 school year began, students and teachers alike were adapting to new ways of instruction and learning. With some students in-person and others attending virtually, technology became an even more crucial part of every classroom. The district made a big investment to make remote learning more effective during the pandemic, thanks, in part, to a $50,000 grant from the Education Foundation. The Mardi Lowry McDonough Student Opportunity Grant Program funded half of the Education Foundation’s total contribution.

The Mardi Lowry McDonough ’87 Student Opportunity Fund and Grant Program

Special Maroon & Gray Issue: In  2016, the SCASD Education Foundation established the Student Opportunity Fund to give donors an opportunity to make a direct impact on students by providing financial resources to teachers and staff through grant awards. In June 2020, in partnership with her family, the Education Foundation honored Mardi Lowry McDonough ’87, longtime educator in the district, and parent to two State High graduates, by permanently adding her name to the fund.
